Genworth Financial Names James Rember General Counsel for Europe

London (28 January 2008) – Genworth Financial today announced the appointment of James Rember as General Counsel for Europe following an internal promotion. 

In his new, expanded role James will lead the legal teams for Genworth’s Mortgage Insurance and Payment Protection insurance businesses across 21 European markets, in addition to being responsible for corporate governance matters.

Prior to his appointment, James was Legal and Compliance Director for Genworth’s Payment Protection Insurance business, a post he had held since May 2001.  His earlier career included roles in the Banking practices of Allen and Overy in London and Clayton Utz in Sydney Australia, before joining the General Electric Company’s European Equipment Finance business as Senior Legal Counsel.

A graduate of the University of Warwick, James completed his Law Society Finals at the Chancery Lane Law School. 

“Genworth is working towards a goal of producing 50% of earnings from outside of the United States by 2010-11”, said Bob Brannock, President of Genworth Financial’s businesses in Europe and Canada.  “With his international experience and commercial mind-set, James is the right person to lead integrated legal teams to support our growth plans.”

The company is currently recruiting for a European Compliance Leader and three lawyers to  support its business operations in the UK and Ireland, Germany and Eastern Europe.
