2008 Report
Experience got the better of youth in the end at the BMW PGA Championship, with Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, veteran of two Ryder Cup campaigns, edging out young Englishman Oliver Wilson at the second hole of a sudden-death play-off to earn his 15th Tour win.
The pair had finished tied at the top on 11 under par, but Jimenez birdied the 18th hole in the play-off to take the first prize and leave Wilson still looking for his first European Tour win, having finished runner-up now on seven occasions.
The omens were perhaps with Jimenez from the moment he enjoyed a hole-in-one at the fifth hole on the final day, but Wilson was left kicking himself after he bogeyed the 17th hole and missed a birdie putt from 15 feet at the last that would have given him victory.
Two more chances went begging as the pair played the 18th hole twice more in the play-off and after they each parred it first time round, Jimenez eventually tapped in from two feet for victory.
"It's my 20th year on tour and so this is a very nice present,'' Jimenez, who is now almost certain to be in Europe's Ryder Cup team to play the United States in September, said. "To win the most important tournament on the European Tour is great.''
Irishman Paul McGinley, who led at the halfway point with a record total of 13-under-par, finished tied for 10th, while Swede Robert Karlsson, the first-round leader after a brilliant 61, tied for third with Englishman Luke Donald.
